Many people attribute ring seating problems to the brand of rings installed.

If the cause is poor cylinder preparation, faulty installation, or a bent connecting rod, the rings are sure to get the blame.

Piston rings have one of the hardest jobs in the engine, to seal the combustion chamber while removing heat from the piston.

We have used Triumph ring sets from Hastings, Total Seal, Deves, Grant, Hepolite, Goetze, Riken, JCC, and a few others. The result was almost the same with each brand…

They all did a great job when gapped correctly, carefully installed in a round bore, and were allowed to break in without any extreme circumstances.

We are proud to announce that we now have Grant piston rings in stock for the Triumph 650. This set consists of a torsional twist (inner bevel) top and second ring, with a one piece cast oil ring. They are designed to break in quickly and give good service life.

These cast iron rings are made in California as they have been since the company was founded in the 1920′s in a house in Los Angeles. Grant rings have won races on drag strips, Bonneville Salt flats, stock car, and countless other events.

These are aluminum core with a nitrile rubber bonded to both sides. This AFM gasket material has excellent temperature resistance, torque retention, and compression.

No sealant of any type is needed, and due to the high rate of recovery when disassembled, in most cases the gaskets can be reused.

NEW Triumph 650 & 750 Racing Spring kits

Kibblewhite has just released two newly designed racing spring kits with light weight HT steel retainers for the Triumph 650, and 750 twins. Although labelled for “racing”, both of these kits would be an excellent choice for a street bike that will see high RPM, or has aftermarket cams.

The retainers are high tensile steel lightened with holes, and are engineered to work with the stock 7 degree Triumph keepers. This dual spring kit will outlast kits with aluminum or titanium retainers, and retain the same high quality that Kibblewhite is known for.

Morgo Oil Pumps…because we like you

What constantly amazes us is that people spend hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars on their vintage Triumph, and put a 50 year old oil pump in the engine.

logo-1The only thing keeping your engine from destroying itself is oil.

Oil pressure, as well as oil circulation is critical to keeping your Triumph healthy. It protects the crankshaft, cams , pistons and all moving parts, as well as performing its function of pulling heat from the engine.

Recently someone brought in a “new” Triumph oil pump made in the Orient. What a huge pile of shit. It looked like someone surfaced the mating side with 80 grit sandpaper, machined the chamfers with a dull dril bit, and there was a sticker on the box saying  ”inspect the check balls for chippings before use”.

We don’t know who is making this crap, why, or who is buying it…

It can only be concluded that people who hate their engines must be using these parts.

Because we like our customers and they like their engines,

We don’t sell any oil pumps that do not say MORGO on them.

World’s fastest pre unit Triumph… since 1961

About a year ago I wrote about Gary Richards and his Speed Records at Bonneville in the 1960′s.

Still, no one has gone faster than Gary Richards did in 1961 with any 650 Triumph motorcycle without a fairing at Bonneville.

His two way average of 159.542 mph still stands as an AMA certified record to this day.

The fact that no one has been able to beat this record in 56 years is amazing in itself, however when you take into account his bike it is even more impressive.

His naturally aspirated stock rigid frame Pre Unit looked like a street bike, with a peanut tank and stock length fork. His father Rich Richards did the tuning, and they managed a 160.272 mph average over one mile, and a return average of 158.812 mph for an official record of 159.542 mph.

Most people don’t realize that the timing trap at Bonneville is one full mile long, and speeding up or slowing down will affect your average speed, which is then averaged with your  return mile speed to reach your qualifying speed.

This method of timing is significantly different than other speed events like the NHRA, which uses a 66 foot long trap at the end of the 1/4 mile track to calculate speed, or even El Mirage Dry Lake which only uses a 132 foot long timing trap at the end of a 1.3 mile track.

 Gary Richards currently produces Dixon Cylinder heads, and from 1961 to today is still the Bonneville record holder of the world’s fastest unfaired Triumph 650 of all time.

Before you buy a new Amal for your Triumph, you may want to check with us first.

There are a lot of people selling Amal carbs these days, but some people are finding little value in choosing the lowest initial price.

Since most of these retailers do not deal directly with the factory, they sell the “base line” versions which are not specific to any model. Buying a pair of these will also mean you may have to buy jets, banjos, slides, or any other parts to tune them for your application.  This often negates the original savings. Some of these sellers also cannot offer tuning advice as they are inexperienced in these matters.

We know Amal carbs because we tune them, race them, and sell them…

Shop Closed For BONNEVILLE SPEED WEEK!

It would be a shame to build a high performance Triumph engine and never see what it is capable of. That is why the shop will be closed during Speed Week to support and tune our Pre Unit race engine at Bonneville for Nik and Patrick. The shop will open again on Saturday the 20th of August.
